Read and Write is a software toolbar that helps users complete tasks by reading text aloud, proofreading text, and supporting writing. It is free for students, faculty, and staff!
- The text-to-speech feature highlights text as it reads it out loud.
- Users can speak and the toolbar will translate the audio into text. The tool can also go the opposite direction, convert written text into an audio file for users.
- It provides definitions and visuals for words that are difficult to understand. Users can generate vocabulary lists with the ability to add personal notes.
- It also includes an embedded grammar checker.
Email your local IT to gain access to the tool. They can push the software to your University-issued computer.
You can also install the software yourself and use your PSU Google ID as your account. Here are the directions:
Install the Software
- Go to Text Help: Read and Write software site.
- Select Try Read and Write to download the software. Select your operating system.
- Open or execute the file from the download location.
- Click on Accept and Install. Allow the installation to be completed. You may need admin privileges.
- Open the software.
- Select “Sign-in with Google” and enter your PSU User ID and password.
