Summer Accessible Skills Challenge

Format: All Commonwealth Campuses

In April 2024, the Department of Justice passed a ruling that requires state and local programs to make their web and mobile applications accessible to individuals with disabilities.  This applies to Penn State and means we must have all our online course content accessible by April 2026.

Join the Accessible Skills Challenge where you will learn the core skills to make your course accessible to meet the expectations of the Department of Justice ruling!

For 8 weeks, from May 12 until July 3, participants will receive an email prompt asking them to perform a single accessibility task in their course. These tasks will focus on core elements of content that can then be applied to the rest of the course.

A badge will be provided for those who complete 6 of the 8 weekly tasks.  Feel free to pick and choose which prompts you’d like to try!  To sign up, complete the Summer Accessible Skills Challenge Registration form.

In addition to the weekly prompts, resources will be provided to help you complete the tasks and answer frequently asked questions.  You will also be able to connect with other faculty about the tasks you are performing in a dedicated Teams space.  This is the third offering of this challenge.  Join in the experience and prepare your courses for Fall!!
