In April 2024, the Department of Justice passed a ruling that requires state and local programs to make their web and mobile applications accessible to individuals with disabilities by April 2026. This applies to Penn State and means we must have all our online course content accessible by April 2026. This challenge will help you prepare for the Department of Justice Ruling on Web Accessibility.
Join the Accessible Skills Challenge where you will learn the core skills to make your course accessible!
For 8 weeks, from February 3 until April 6, participants will receive a prompt asking them to perform a task in their course to make it more accessible. These skills will focus on core elements of their content that they can then apply across the course to make the entire course accessible.
A badge will be provided for those who complete 6 of the 8 weekly tasks. Feel free to pick and choose which prompts you’d like to try! To sign up, complete the Accessible Skills Challenge Registration form.
In addition to the weekly prompts, resources will be provided to support you in completing the tasks and answer frequently asked questions. A Teams space will allow you to connect with other faculty around the tasks you are performing.
This past fall, a cohort of faculty have been using these prompts to help make their courses more accessible and prepare for the spring semester. We hope you will find these weekly prompts equally valuable in guiding you to make your courses more accessible.
